Day Trip to Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou

After breakfast, set off early for an unforgettable journey through the majestic landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains. The road winds through Berber villages, dramatic switchbacks, and sweeping panoramas, climbing all the way to the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest mountain pass in Morocco, standing at 2,260 meters. Here, the air is crisp and the peaks seem to touch the sky.

From this high-altitude vantage point, the road descends into an almost lunar landscape, where you’ll find the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village made of mud and straw that looks as if it has stepped out of an ancient dream. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this ksar has served as the backdrop for famous films like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. Wandering its narrow alleys feels like walking through the pages of caravan history, as merchants once passed through here en route to Marrakech.

A bit farther lies Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert,” with its striking red-earth kasbahs and the Atlas Studios, often referred to as “the Hollywood of Africa.” The tour continues with a visit to the impressive Taourirt Kasbah, where quiet courtyards and beautifully decorated rooms offer a glimpse into the region’s noble past.
