Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fez and the Sahara Dunes

A complete itinerary to discover Morocco, from the Atlantic coast to the heart of the Sahara Desert. Over ten days, you will explore imperial cities, ancient Roman ruins, Berber villages, kasbahs, golden dunes, traditional markets and breathtaking landscapes across the Atlas Mountains and the great valleys of southern Morocco.

DAY 1

Casablanca – Rabat

Casablanca is the economic capital of Morocco, where most of the country’s international trade is managed. Located on the western coast, the city resembles a major urban centre in Southern Europe. The modern city began to develop in 1906 on the site of an ancient Berber settlement dating back to the 7th century, which was destroyed by an earthquake in the second half of the 18th century. Outside the medina lies the district built by the French, the Nouvelle Ville, with its gardens and boulevards, shopping centres, hotels, banks and shops. The most important landmark to visit is the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. After breakfast, departure from the hotel to visit the Hassan II Mosque. The journey then continues towards Rabat, Morocco’s administrative capital overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Modern and regal, Rabat combines history with colonial architecture. Recommended visits include the Hassan Tower, the unfinished minaret of a 12th-century mosque, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, where King Hassan II and Prince Moulay Abdallah are also buried. Rabat’s historic medina is fascinating, with cobbled alleys, local handicrafts and art galleries.

Dinner at your leisure. Overnight stay in a riad.

DAY 2

Rabat – Chefchaouen

After breakfast, departure towards Chefchaouen. The city of Chefchaouen is known as the “Blue Pearl” because its buildings, doors, windows, fountains and streets are painted in different shades of blue. For centuries, the city was considered sacred and foreigners were even forbidden to enter. It was only in the 1950s that things began to change, and the city became a tourist destination that is still relatively little known. The medina is a maze of narrow, blue-painted streets, a tradition with religious rather than purely aesthetic origins. Inhabited by Berber communities, the city was founded with the arrival of people from Andalusia, which is why the old town resembles Andalusian villages, with narrow streets and walls covered with flowers. Many of its inhabitants still speak Spanish today. At the heart of the old town, you will find Outa-el-Hammam Square, home to the Tarik-Ben-Ziad Mosque, with its distinctive octagonal minaret inspired by Seville’s Torre del Oro, as well as a beautiful fortress. The modern part of the city is located further downhill.

Dinner at your leisure. Overnight stay in a riad.

DAY 3

Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknès – Fez

After breakfast, departure for Volubilis, a remarkably well-preserved Roman archaeological site recognized by UNESCO. After a short visit among its columns and mosaics, the journey continues to Meknes, an imperial city founded by Sultan Moulay Ismail.
