Between Medinas and Dunes: Fez, Merzouga, Marrakech

A short but intense journey connecting two of Morocco’s most fascinating cities — Fez and Marrakech — through breathtaking landscapes, lush oases, Berber villages, spectacular canyons and, of course, the incredible Erg Chebbi Desert. Three days to experience the magic of the Sahara and the authenticity of southern Morocco.

DAY 1

Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Departure from Fez after breakfast, heading towards the desert and crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane, nicknamed the “Little Switzerland of Morocco” for its European-style architecture and mountain setting. The journey continues to Azrou, where Barbary macaques live in the cedar and oak forests. The route then follows the scenic Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and traditional earthen villages. Arrival in Merzouga in the afternoon, at the gateway to the Erg Chebbi Desert. Shortly before sunset, departure on a camel ride through the dunes to reach the Berber desert camp, where a traditional dinner under the stars and live Berber music await you.

Dinner and overnight stay in a luxury desert camp.

DAY 2

Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

After witnessing the spectacular sunrise in the Sahara, you will have breakfast at the camp and return to Merzouga by camel. The journey continues towards Rissani, an ancient caravan town with an authentic and lively market. After a short visit, you will reach Erfoud, known as the city of fossils, where the land holds ancient marine remains that are transformed into art and decorative objects. From here, the journey continues to the spectacular Todra Gorges, deep canyons carved into the rock offering breathtaking scenery. Arrival in the Dadès Valley in the evening, a land of canyons and kasbahs.

Dinner and overnight stay in a riad.

DAY 3

Dades Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait-Ben-Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, departure through the picturesque Valley of Roses, famous for the Damask rose and the traditional production of natural cosmetics. The journey continues towards Ouarzazate, a city that developed during the colonial period and is now known for the Atlas Studios, the largest film studio complex in North Africa. The next stop is the majestic Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah, one of Morocco’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites. After a panoramic visit, you will cross the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka, the highest mountain pass in the country. Arrival in Marrakech in the evening.
