Golden Sands from Fès to Marrakech

A perfect tour for those who want to travel across Morocco from north to south, from Fès to Marrakech, passing through the golden dunes of Merzouga, the valleys of the Atlas Mountains, and the most beautiful kasbahs of the south. Four intense days to discover the charm of the desert, traditional markets, and the iconic landscapes of cinematic Morocco.

DAY 1

Fès – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Departure from Fès after breakfast heading south. First stop in Ifrane, known as the “Little Switzerland of Morocco,” a mountain town famous for its European-style architecture and tree-lined boulevards. Continue to Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques in the cedar forests. Cross the scenic Ziz Valley, a natural corridor dotted with palm oases and red-mud villages. Afternoon arrival in Merzouga, gateway to the desert. Dinner and overnight stay in a riad/hotel.

DAY 2

Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Khamlia – Desert Camp

After breakfast, embark on a 4×4 desert adventure across the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi. Visit nomadic families and stop at Khamlia, a village inhabited by descendants of Mali and Senegal, where you can enjoy a live Gnawa music performance. Continue to the abandoned mines of Mifiss before returning to Merzouga. Near sunset, ride camels through the golden dunes to reach the Berber camp in the heart of the Sahara. After a traditional dinner under the stars, enjoy live Berber music. Overnight in a haima tent.

DAY 3

Merzouga – Rissani – Dadès Gorges – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate

Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, then have breakfast and return to Merzouga by camel. Depart for Rissani, a historic caravan town with a lively traditional market. Continue through the Dadès Valley, passing by the famous Valley of Roses, renowned for its damask rose cultivation. Visit the panoramic Dadès Gorges and head to Ouarzazate, an important trade hub and former French garrison. Optional visit to the Atlas Film Studios, Morocco’s “Hollywood.” Dinner and overnight in a riad.

DAY 4

Ouarzazate – Ait-Ben-Haddou – Tizi n’Tichka – Marrakech

After breakfast, visit the iconic Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most photographed places in Morocco. The journey continues crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the panoramic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in the country. Enjoy breathtaking mountain landscapes, deep gorges, and Berber villages before reaching Marrakech, where the tour ends in the late afternoon.
